Functional Health Pattern Assessment (FHP)

Two frameworks laid over each other. The functional patterns supply the questions and Erikson's stage decides which answers are normal, which is the connection most submissions never make.

Erikson decides what counts as normal in each pattern

The two frameworks are meant to be used together and the assignment is graded on whether they actually are. The functional health patterns supply the domains you ask about; Erikson's stage supplies the standard against which the answers are judged. A three-year-old's insistence on dressing themselves is autonomy and initiative doing exactly what they should, while the same behaviour in an eight-month-old would mean something else entirely, and bedwetting is developmentally expected at one age and a potential health problem at another. Say that explicitly rather than running the two frameworks in parallel sections that never meet, because the parallel version is what most submissions produce and it answers only half the brief. State the age in the first line and the rest of the assessment acquires a reference point, since almost every pattern below hides an age-dependent normal range. Write one sentence per pattern that names the stage, and the connection becomes structural.

Fix the developmental age first, then work each pattern through it. In sleep and rest, the normal total and the presence of bedtime resistance both vary by stage. In nutrition, self-feeding, food refusal and the physiological slowing of growth in the preschool years all change what counts as a concern. In role and relationship, the industry stage predicts that peer comparison and school performance become the child's central preoccupation, which is why the same academic difficulty produces different distress at six and at eleven. In self-perception, body image emerges earlier than most students expect. Then use the phrase the brief uses, actual and potential health problems, as a genuine sorting device: an actual problem is present now, and a potential one is a risk the stage itself creates, which is where anticipatory guidance belongs and where the strongest submissions concentrate. Two categories with different actions attached is the shape the marker is looking for.

Likely learning objectives

  • Use a developmental stage as the standard for interpreting assessment findings.
  • Distinguish actual from potential health problems in a paediatric assessment.
  • Locate anticipatory guidance in stage-specific risk.
  • Avoid running two frameworks in parallel without connecting them.

Assignment NRS 434VN Week 2-Assessment Of The Child NRS 434VN Week 2-Assessment Of The Child Details: In this assignment, you will be exploring actual and potential health problems in the childhood years using a functional health assessment and Erickson’s Stages of Child Development. To complete this assignment, do the following: Using the textbook, complete the “Children’s Functional Health Pattern Assessment.” Follow the instructions in the resource for completing the assignment. Cite and reference any outside sources used in your answers. Include in your assessment a thorough discussion of Erickson’s Stages of Child Development as it pertains to the development age of the child. While APA format is not required for the body of this assignment, solid academic writing is expected and in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. NRS 434VN Week 2-Assessment Of The Child This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion. Cite and reference outside sources used. 1) Compare and contrast identified similarities as well as differences in expected assessment across the childhood age groups. 2) Summarize how a nurse would handle physical assessments, examinations, education, and communication differently with children versus adults. Patterns filtered through the developmental stage

01

The child and the stage

Fix the developmental age and state the corresponding psychosocial task.

What the assessor is likely looking for

A stage named and its central conflict described.

02

Health perception and management

Assess how the child and family understand and act on health at this age.

What the assessor is likely looking for

Age-appropriate autonomy in health behaviour.

03

Nutrition, elimination and sleep

Apply age-specific norms to the physiological patterns.

What the assessor is likely looking for

Norms that vary by stage rather than fixed thresholds.

04

Activity, cognition and perception

Assess motor, play and cognitive patterns against the stage.

What the assessor is likely looking for

Development treated as the interpretive standard.

05

Self-perception and relationships

Assess identity, peer relationships and family role at this age.

What the assessor is likely looking for

The psychosocial conflict visible in the findings.

06

Actual versus potential problems

Sort the findings and attach anticipatory guidance to the potential ones.

What the assessor is likely looking for

A sorting that produces different actions for each category.

Search sequence

  1. 1.Read a primary account of the psychosocial stages before applying them.
  2. 2.Look up age-specific norms for sleep, nutrition and elimination.
  3. 3.Search anticipatory guidance for the age you have chosen.
  4. 4.Check a paediatric mental health source for the self-perception patterns.

Before you submit the assessment

Common mistakes

  • Running the patterns and the developmental theory as unconnected sections.
  • Leaving the developmental age unspecified, which makes normality unjudgeable.
  • Listing findings without sorting them into actual and potential problems.
  • Applying adult norms to paediatric patterns.
  • Omitting anticipatory guidance, which is where potential problems belong.

Submission checklist

  • Is the developmental age stated at the outset?
  • Does each pattern reference the stage when judging normality?
  • Are actual and potential problems distinguished?
  • Is anticipatory guidance tied to stage-specific risk?
  • Are outside sources cited as the brief requires?
